I have fond memories of my time as an undergraduate at the U of R and I've worked there for over 17 years now. I really only started going to the Farmers' Market regularly seven or eight years ago, started volunteering there four years ago, and have only been employed by them since April. Of the two though, I prefer my market job. Partially, my interests have changed. I'm no longer so interested in computer technology that I will gladly spend my free time keeping up to date. Mostly though, I think it relates to the people and management practices at the two organizations. The University seems to put work first and people second. While it seems the other way around for the Market. Maybe that's just because one is a massive institution that employs thousands while the other is a small collective with under a dozen employees or maybe it's just working with people who haven't spent years staring at computer screens all the time and actually know how to connect with others.
