Camping
When I was young, most summer vacations were camping trips. One of my favourite destinations was Waterton National Park in southern Alberta. Close enough to reach in a day and not nearly as busy as Banff and Jasper, it was a pleasant place to go. The last time I was there was in 2006. My parents and I were on a road trip to visit friends in Seattle and relatives in Vancouver and Victoria and we stopped for part of a day on the way. There was a quick visit to the Prince of Wales Hotel which was closed for the season (and where it was incredibly windy) and we did part of the Red Rock Canyon Hike. Since then, there has been a massive forest fire in Waterton, so I'm not sure what it's like now. Probably still beautiful but maybe not the way I'd remember it. Nothing ever is though.
