In general, when I go on vacation, I have a pretty good idea of what I want to do, but not necessarily when I'm going to do it. In particular, I almost never have more than a vague plan for what I'm going to do the day I arrive. So, when I arrived in New York on Sunday, I had thought I would go to a Jazz club, eat some dinner and go to bed. I got in later than planned though and thought better of it and made a spur of the moment decision to see if I could get a last minute ticket to see Waitress and eat dinner. I managed to get the very last seat in the house and it was definitely the right choice. So much fun (although I probably should have eaten before going since they pipe the scent of pie into the theatre).

Then yesterday, I was in the Whitney Museum of American Art and flipping through Instagram and there was a post from a musician I follow about a house concert in Brooklyn. Going to a random house in a part of the city I'm not familiar with at night alone just because the invitation looked friendly enough seems a bit terrifying. It was the good kind of terrifying though. The house hosts were super friendly, the room was gorgeous, there was a big supportive crowd, and the music was spectacular.
