October

It's Halloween and I haven't blogged since September. Scary! So here are some of my October highlights:

I went to Steph Cameron's acoustic show at O'Hanlon's and Ava and her dad were there. It was a delightful night of music, tea drinking, and conversations.

At the Salt Studio (next door to Atlantis), William had his first ever art opening. Based on the Pud comics that come in Double Bubble and inspired in part by Swamp Fest, he created a set of sixteen disturbing and twisted comics.

The Sarah Slean show at the Artesian featured great music, but also had me sitting next to enthusiastic music fans. That always makes a concert better.

On a night with hurricane force winds, I was at the Exchange for Hey Ocean. They had a planned acoustic portion of the set, but just as that was finishing, the power went out. With the help of audience participation and careful song selection, they kept right on going until the power came back on. Such a delight.

I got to see a hurdy gurdy played at the Casati show at the Creative City Centre. I think there should be more hurdy gurdy. It's always fun to see strange old instruments used in new ways.

The Zachari Logan exhibit at Slate has insanely detailed blue pencil drawings. They merge plant and animal forms into remarkable new forms.

The David Myles concert at the Artesian was a revelation. I went in not knowing much about David Myles and discovered a talented rock group led by someone who could be a stand up comic. Almost better though was the opening act. Port Cities are a trio of singer/songwriters from the east coast. Their set was far too short.

There was so much more like so many tacos from Malinche, cheesecake and birthday parties, a trip to Saskatoon, and much baking so I guess it was a busy month.
