Bachelor Party

The day started off ordinarily enough with breakfast and a walk around the resort, but it was also the day the bride, groom, and best man arrived so it was also the day for the bachelor party.

Just prior to that, the bride and groom threw an informal reception for the groom's family and friends at their villa. It is awe inspiring in its decadence with a private pool, yard, cabana, and apparently even butler service. The villa is included with their wedding package, so all I'd have to do is get married here and then I too could go skinny dipping in a private pool in the Philippines. Mind you, my view is better and if I really wanted a villa I could have paid for that as well.

The bachelor party itself started off with a van trip to D'Mall where we ate dinner at Epic, a restaurant on the beach. That was followed by drinks at The Hobbit Tavern which is most notable for the short stature of most of the staff. Sadly, there wasn't much else to make it hobbit related. At that point about half of our party went back to the resort, but the rest of us went to Om Bar.

The music was too loud to talk, the private booth area that we reserved didn't actually have proper seating, so it was uncomfortable, but we stayed for drinks anyway. They had Jenga, so we played that and sort of yelled at each other, and then there were more drinks and the booth beside us filled up with young women who were dancing and older guys who were ogling them. (Fine, we were doing that too.) I had four drinks over the course of the evening (some of them were likely doubles though) and was definitely feeling it when we left, but most of the rest of the party was much worse off. (I think Lawrence only had one drink, so he was probably better off.)

There was no van to take us back to the resort, so instead we got motorcycle taxis to take us back. These consist of a motorcycle with a sidecar. They are very common, but terrifying to ride in - no seat belts, no doors, and reckless drivers - but they got us safely back to the resort.

After all the excitement of the evening, I didn't end up sleeping particularly well, so I ended up having a latte with breakfast this morning. The groom and the rest of the late night party goers were no where to be seen though.
