Introduction

Sometime in late March, I ran into Jenn at lunch:

"I hear you are going to the Philippines."

"Yes, for a wedding."

"Your wedding?"

I laughed. "No, a friend's." Then I joked, "I'm very single, but if you know someone..."

"Hmm... I'll think about it."

I didn't think she was serious. Others have said similar things and nothing has happened but sometime in May, I ran into her again.

"We should chat."

"Okay, why?"

"I've found a girl!"

I put off doing anything for a while and didn't run into Jenn either, but when I did, she grouched "You know my email address."

A couple messages later and I had found out that the girl was named Emma, that Jenn thought she was smart and funny, that Emma has a master's degree and loves to read. I looked to see if I could find out anything else about her, but Emma apparently doesn't have any social media accounts and barely shows up in Google. So, there wasn't a lot to go on, but it seems harmless enough so why not.

Jenn had this elaborate plan to meet somewhere and walk and talk. Considering how little I knew, I thought it better to just go for coffee at work and if I was interested in more, take it from there. Jenn agreed that was a reasonable idea and I supplied times when I was available.

The next day, Jenn emailed back to tell me that it wasn't going to happen and it wasn't related to my availability. I suppose Emma could have been really busy and unable to spare 15 minutes for coffee, but it felt far more like she just wasn't interested in meeting me. Jenn suggested that I could stop by her office and meet Emma that way, but that felt unwise, so in the end nothing happened, but, it was nice of Jenn to try.
