Last Tuesday, after three weeks vacation, I had to go back to work. There were thousands of emails (mostly unimportant), a pile of untouched work tickets, and a system that was misbehaving to fix. Friday couldn't come soon enough, but only for work. Non-work stuff was much better.

The previous Saturday at the Farmers' Market, the flower truck was there staffed by my favourite employee who also happens to be a university student. We chatted as I was leaving and she's headed off to Mexico City as part of a course this spring, but will be back in July. Hopefully, she'll share some stories with me when she's back.

A couple days later, while walking around the lake, two women were walking toward me and then one of them started jogging. The other one started jogging a bit later, but as she got closer she said "Help me!". I suggested that she could turn around and walk with me instead. She didn't do that, but she did laugh which was more than I expected.

Wednesday at lunch, I ran into another student I recognize from walking circles in the hallways. She noticed that I hadn't been around in a while so we briefly chatted about my vacation. It's nice to be missed for reasons other than the pile of work that I had to do.

Finally, Thursday as I was walking home from a delightful jazzy concert at the Cure, I saw someone I vaguely know standing outside of Leopold's smoking. She greeted me more warmly than ever before and I sort of wonder if I should have asked her to go for coffee sometime, but it was late and by the time I had that thought my legs had carried me a half a block away. Maybe next time I run into her...
