Furniture

When I'm on vacation, I enjoy wandering through furniture stores and antique shops. I suppose that's partially because you can find gorgeous things like the following finds from my recent trip to New York:

Furniture shopping in Regina is not nearly so much fun. Virtually every store sells the same style of furniture. It's all big and bulky and seemingly designed for huge houses. In general, I wouldn't care, but I've had to do more furniture shopping than I'd like over the last two years.

Shortly before Christmas in 2016, my old leather couch, bought for a reasonable price at the Sears Clearance Centre, developed a giant rip in the fabric. There were already issues with the springs and general structure of it, so recovering it wasn't an option. After searching through basically every furniture store in the city, I found this couch and matching coffee table at Castle. I like the fairly simple lines and wood accents. It probably helps that it was a Norwegian design.

This year, I had to replace two of my chairs. They were cheap leather chairs bought at Home Depot and the leather has decided to become un-bonded from the fabric below. Given how little I paid for them, I can't really complain too much. They were still perfectly comfortable just looking kind of ugly and not really worth getting fixed. (Although, if you are into doing that sort of thing yourself, they are now at the Salvation Army store for something like $35.) I replaced them with these chairs I found at Urbane.

I think I like them even better than the couch.

I should probably replace my bed and night stand at some point, but maybe that can wait until next year.
